Prayer for Revival and Spiritual Awakening |

August 1-6 we will have a revival meeting! There will be good singing, good praying, good fellowship, and good preaching with Rev. Mitch Wright. I will be there and so will you. But, will God be there? We can sing at the top of our voices, pray until we sweat blood, preach until our voices crack, and weep until the break of dawn, but if God isn't there, it is all for naught. Will God be there?

Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else.
Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work.

“Quit!” “Give up, you’re beaten,” they shout and plead there’s just too much against you now, this time you can’t succeed. And as I start to hang my head in front of failure’s face, my downward fall is broken by the memory of a race.
And hope refills my weakened will as I recall that scene, for just the thought of that short race rejuvenates my being. A children’s race, young boys, young men; how I remember well, excitement sure, but also fear, it wasn’t hard to tell.
They all lined up so full of hope, each thought to win that race or tie for first, or if not that, at least take second place. Their fathers watched from off the side, each cheering for his son, and each boy hoped to show his dad that he would be the one. The whistle blew and off they went, young hearts and hopes of fire, to win, to be the hero there, was each young boy’s desire. One boy in particular, his dad was in the crowd, was running near the lead and thought, “My dad will be so proud.”

Some time around 1977, I led FBC, Kimberling City to hire a secretary. We asked her to work only 9 hours a week, and paid her only $3.00 per hour. It seems to be a relatively simple and inexpensive move, but it took a lot of talking and pursuading to get that position established. People thought we couldn't afford it; some thought we didn't need it. But we did, and we were able to pay her every week without problem. Now, in 2010, 33 years later, there are more than 5 ministers on staff, and a whole host of administrative staff. The lady we hired as a part-time secretary is the administrative office manager over the entire administrative staff now. Who knew that such a simple decision would have such an impact on that little church?
